They were ready; at least Goku thought they were. He'd been put in charge of recruiting 10 of the most powerful warriors from their universe for Zen-O's tournament. Only Gohan and Piccolo knew the truth of why, and were keeping their mouths shut (and reminding Goku to do the same).
Personally, Goku still didn't understand why they couldn't get Monaka. When everyone gathered in one of the living rooms at Capsule Corp, where Shin had set up a board and pinned the team's pictures, and there was no sign of Beerus or Whis, Goku hoped maybe the God had changed his mind. Not that he didn't have faith in everyone of his picks, especially with Gohan as team-leader.
But he really was looking forward to fighting with Monaka again, even if they'd be on the same team this time.
Still, 10 fighters, with each picture displayed and hours to go before the tournament started. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, 17, 18, Master Roshi, and Buu. Wearing that characteristic Son grin, his hands on his hips, Goku was pleased and excited the way only good fights could make him.
"Huh? I thought Beerus and Whis would be here too." Gohan murmured, arms crossed as he sat on the couch.
Shin sighed, hands at his back as he surveyed his group so far. "Whis mentioned they were investigating someone." Which could've meant anything.
Nor was this helped a moment later, by Bulma running in with her eyes wide. "Guys, we have a problem!"
They'd had more than one problem it turned out, not least of which the sudden unraveling of the ruse for just what the prize (and consequences) of the Zen'O's tournament were. But time was increasingly short, and at least in the short term, everyone seemed to agree on survival being most important.
Pride was still a heavy obstacle though and old grudges sat uneasily.
To say the circle of fighters (along with angel and God of Destruction) was at ease arriving in the world of Void would've been a gross exaggeration. It was hints of tension both within the group, and without, as curiosity over their 'stage' and the surrounding areas reigned.
10 Fighters from each Universe. 8 Universes participating. The final two added to Universe 7's team had been shocks. First, that for all Beerus had left recruiting up to Goku, the God had thought of a 'suggested' team-mate. Not Monaka, as Goku had briefly hoped--and there had been some heavy discussion over if the fighter in question was even allowed.
Perhaps surprisingly, perhaps not--Master Roshi willingly surrendered his place to Trunks Briefs. From the alternate future of Universe 7. He had fought and existed in the 'past' timeline before, and would count enough as a resident (so everyone had finally seemed to think they could convince anyone else) to participate.
If anything, his participation had been the less contentious choice. Several of the members would've preferred Roshi over the being Goku advocated for. But in the the end, the time was short, and the need was great. Provided he could be kept in line, Frieza was released from Hell, and added to Team 7.
It seemed they were the first universe to arrive, as the arena was being repaired. By why were Gods of Destruction doing so? An answer wasn't forthcoming as quickly other universe's arrived also in half-domes of light.
