Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...

"Some of it crosses over well with chi-manipulation and what I've learned about that, but not all of it." Trunks agreed with a sympathetic smile. "I also seem to be more mechanically and technologically inclined than magically inclined. At least from what I've noticed."

"That certainly fits what I've seen," Celestia said with a nod. "It's quite a different skill-set than I possess, so we make a good team in that regard."

"Reassuring that I'm not just dumb muscle, isn't it?" Trunks teased back with a laugh. "Even if you don't require that much in the way of someone acting as muscle." Caireen--Mai hadn't always either, although the two had certainly been direct in acting to protect children before.

"Nopony could ever mistake you for dumb muscle, and you know that." How silly of him to even think that! He showed intelligence and sensitivity even in the worst of times.

He also showed a temper, although he was proving to have a long fuse for it. More often over the months Trunks had just gotten more quiet, and very occasionally snarky. But that was very occasionally, and usually provoked.

"You also know what I mean." He'd been poking fun, Celestia.

Celestia worried about that 'more quiet' part. She was glad he felt talkative tonight, and more open. "Well yes, but where's the fun in that?"

An eye roll (affectionate), and a smile--although he tried to hide it. Also a snort, one she'd heard before before he had any equine features, that usually translated as mild amusement or annoyance--in this case it was probably amusement.

"Sometimes I think you became the wrong Goddess, and need to be one of the mischief makers."

"I already am one," she said, nudging him playfully with one foreknee. "I never pretended otherwise, did I?"

That definitely brought out a snicker, from the truth of it and the nudge. Head ducking a bit. "True, considering some of the stories you've told me. I wish I could reciprocate, but..."

One shoulder lifted up in a shrug; lack of memories made sharing harder.

"It's quite all right. There's a great deal I don't understand anyway, after all. Science and technology and human things." Though she was adapting to the Far Shore, there was still so much that could surprise her.

"It's actually simpler than you'd think, really. Once you have the basic concepts--and I KNOW you're more than smart enough to learn." But they hadn't really come out there to talk about technology or magic. Not that Trunks minded--he liked talking to Celestia. He liked listening to her as well.

"Do you control the stars, in Equestria, too? Since the sun and moon are governed by you and your sister raising them..."

"The night sky is my sister's domain, but I can do it if need be."

He'd heard by now about her time spent raising both sun and moon, after all.

He had, and he tried to respect her memories and sadness and not ask too much. But he wouldn't deny he was curious. "I still have trouble thinking about that, objects in the sky that require control." But it's commented more thoughtfully, softly. "I mean, my brain tells me that stars are giant balls of chemical reactions and gasses that we see filtered through more layers of chemicals in the sky. They're there in the day, but it's too bright to usually see them--and some of them are other planets too."

Trailing off, wondering to himself what made Equestria so different in how it's 'natural laws' worked.

"Imagine how I feel, with the sun and the moon and the seasons and the clouds all doing their own thing. And so uncontrolled as well! I think the pony way is better, if I may be allowed my opinion." No weather disasters, for one. No droughts. No unseasonal temperatures spoiling crops...

Trunks didn't reply right away, quiet and being sure of his words. "No, I can imagine how you feel. But I also imagine the responsibility is huge. I also worry--what if your power was in hands..."

An aside glance, and a hint of sheepishness. "Sorry, Hooves. That weren't so beneficial or good-natured."

"Nopony is an alicorn who does not deserve to be," Celestia said simply. "And no threat to Equestria has ever withstood it. Ponykind has the power it needs to stop such evils in spades."

So alicorns weren't born, but made... Interesting. "Probably better then that humans don't have similar abilities, considering what we see." Because as Gods and shinki, they did see enough of both the good and the bad of humanity.

Well... that wasn't entirely true, but nonetheless. "I feel humans are unfortunate, not to have things like cutie marks. But truly, humans and ponykind are quite alike."

He agreed, and then shifted. Trying to turn his head, getting to his feet, trying to get a look at his own flank. "Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what the heck mine means." It was a logo--he knew that much. It was also on a jacket he'd somehow gotten. Gohan and Mai had mentioned it belonged to a company.

Celestia hid her smile behind one hoof as Trunks turned. "A good question, but it relates to your special talent -- the one thing that makes you stand out."

A complete circle, then standing up and stretching, and just---nope. Neck wasn't long enough. "So my special talent is a corporate logo?" Turning to Celestia with a flat look, one brow raised.

Celestia was not above appreciating the view. Not that he would ever know, since her expression was a perfect poker face, revealing nothing of her inner thoughts. "It is a symbol, not a statement. You may think mine is obvious, but in reality, Princess of the Day is much more complex than simply raising and lowering the sun."

There is a huff, including a sigh that puffed his bangs, and Trunks sat back down. "So, my symbol is a corporate logo. That really doesn't help things much."

"It is going to be a mystery, I'm afraid," Celestia said with gentle sympathy. "You know the dangers of probing too much into your own past."

Again that eloquent snort, showing how unamused he was. But it was his only comment for now. Letting the quiet return for several moments, before speaking softly. "Mai didn't tell me much about where she was from, but I did gather enough to know that she wasn't able to watch clear skies like this often. I joked about getting her a hammock, for when she wanted to lay out and watch the stars."
