AU here with Loki doing time with the BPRD to help pay for his crimes against Midgard. New Asgard is a suzurainty in Norway under Thor, and establishing its place in the world. Infinity Stones+Thanos are still a coming threat.
John Myers had been "Transferred to Antarctica" in a moment of annoyance from Hellboy, and though it had happened swiftly (which pleased HB), it did not last. With the recent alien invasion in New York, and the destruction that devastated the city, as well as all the other weird odds and ends, things in the BPRD shifted. A lot. John had not only been brought back by Agent Tom Manning but he had been put in charge of... well, a situation.
That situation was the oddness of one Loki Laufeyson, currently being brought in as an asset to the BPRD, though John felt it was another weird babysitting job. They wanted Loki's intel on this Thanos issues and the infinity stones, and yes, the higher ups, Avengers, and Thor off in Norway were mostly handling that, but as atonement for his crimes against humanity here on Earth, he was also having to put time in to help in odd situations.
Like this one.
John didn't have full access to the Loki details, but he was given enough to know what he would be good to help with. When this strange case crossed his desk, he knew just who to send. In a very small, old country side of Russia, there came a weird incident, that locals can't manage to figure out. One young 19 year old teenage boy in very old clothing appeared on a road, babbling nonsense about a old house on the hill. The house itself is in ruins, but the boy keeps crying that it's full, and haunted, and there is something in there and... oh, right, he disappeared back in 1962.
So yes, John had called for Loki to join them in briefing room C. Where he asked another Agent to appear. This is not t he first job Loki has done for the BPRD, though they have had him on a hard short leash, and generally always ted to a group of other agents who just didn't trust him. It wouldn't have been easy, being absolutely untrusted, but Agent Myers is trying.
Two agent's would have come to Loki's room, asking him to come with them, and escort him to the briefing room. Inside he would see Agent Myers seated at the head of a long table, a laptop on the desk before him, and several folders beside that. When the Agent's open the door, John looks up, and nods for them to leave Loki with him. "Please, come in and take a seat."
Loki himself never claimed 'Laufeyson' as his last name, and was keeping a mental tally of those who used it more than once when corrected. He preferred they simply use Loki, since he doubted he could convince them to use 'Odinson' like he wanted. Besides, it wasn't wrong--he was the son of Laufey and Odin both.
Nor was it any great surprise to find that Midgard had agencies dealing with threats that were similar, but not exactly, what the Avengers or SHIELD dealt with. It was better than having to deal with the wizard again too. Loki cooperated, mostly, because it was in his best interest. It was likely Thanos would be none-to-pleased with him when he arrived after all.
Again though, Thor had enough on his hands convincing the country Norway, along with the rest of the world, that they weren't invaders. Were refugees actually, and most certainly not interested in conquering. So Loki was cooperating, both because it was in his best interest but also because there was enough to do. This was more interesting anyways.
Blending in, favoring Midgardian suits in dark colors with small accents of green, and a gold circular tie-clip. Most often he was quiet, speaking when spoken to and not much more, and seemed to enjoy that he made the agents nervous. They should be, he felt. Even if he chafed at the hard leash.
Loki took in this new agent at a glance as he moved to take a seat. Arms crossed, lean form and long legs not relaxed, but more in a wary guard. "My new babysitter, I take it?" One who looked like a baby himself.
John liked to think that thought he was a follow the rules kind of guy, that he could be relaxed and friendly in all this, right? He was trying. He had been warned by Manning that 'Mr. Laufeyson was not fond of the name. They had in books, so he had already decided to just use his first name, like he did now with Liz.
So as the agent's left in a hurry and left Loki there, the door being pulled shut, he held back a sigh, watching their two forms dart off away past the frosted glass. Honestly, this was going to be harder then babysitting Hellboy.
And at that comment of baby sitting, he snorted, looking up at the God being. "Something like that. Manning said you scared the last one into retirement."
Elsewhere, Liz was pulling on a hooded sweater and sighing. Myers said he had a case for her, and seeing as HB was off site to deal with another issue with Abe, she knew it wouldn't be a comfortable mission. She was never comfortable around the other agents. and still felt they were never comfortable around her either.
"Just a little harmless fun." Loki responded, with a smile that was all teeth. Honestly he'd expected a bit better of these BPRD agents. If he could scare them, then they should worry about what was out there that might be worse than the God of Mischief.
He snorted, leaning forward on the table, a brow raised. "Harmless fun? I hope what I have for you entertains you more towards it than me. But, should you decide you need to have some harmless fun with me, just know I don't tend to run easy?"
He sighed, closing his laptop a moment and glancing to the door, then back to him. "It says they have had you on a few small cases so far, with several agents? How'd those go?"
"Easily enough. Baby stuff, from my perspective." Loki replied, not bothering to hide his disdain. "They needed more help figuring out what was going on so it could be properly dealt with. I'm not impressed."
"Pretty sure no one here is trying to impress you." Myers pointed out, a brow raised but a small smirk at his lips. Or trying to, at least.
There was a dark shadow at the frosted glass door, and a faint tap of a knuckle. "Ah, there we are. The rest of the team. It's open." He called to Liz.
Liz Sherman, dressed in all black as normal pushed the glass door open enough to slide in and let it close. Dressed in black leather pants, big tom boy black boots, and hiding her weapons and belt with a large black zip front hooded sweater, she ducked in to glance at the two of them. Her eyes glanced over Loki, curiously, before falling to Myers. "You called, John?"
"Yes. Come in, come in, take a seat. Have you two met?" John asked, taking a breath.
Liz glanced at Loki, but shook her head in answer s she came towards a chair across from him on the other side of the table. She had heard of him, of course. You always heard when a new asset came in. But they had not met.
No doubt the gossip around Loki had been numerous and heavy. Even for an asset he was notable; it was a wonder the BPRD hadn't been called in to deal with his invasion in some ways. Although given what he'd seen so far, it didn't surprise him that they weren't. He was convinced in many ways that they couldn't handle him, if he weren't behaving himself of his own volition.
Today he'd worn all black for his suit, with a bright green tie and that ever present gold circular tie-pin. Glancing over the other agent, and wondering about this one. He'd bet good mead she was hiding weapons under that sweater. "We have not." He answered Myer's question, a faint smile that couldn't easily be read on his face.
The BPRD handed supernatural, not alien. It's the MIB that had to deal with that mess, thank you. And honestly, if this hadn't been a favor for someone who knows someone who knows Thor? The MIB might have been dealing with Loki themselves.
And yes, Liz ws hiding weapons under the sweater. A pair of guns and a knife, as well as a belt full of relics, but that was just how she dressed. She didn't care who saw. But she glanced over the man, knowing h e was an asset, but surprised he looked so... human? Most their assets, besides her, didn't look completely human. still, not too surprised.
John smiled at them both. "Well then, Liz Sherman please meet Loki..." She glanced down to a note, to make sure he had the right last name. But Liz spoke up.
"Odinson. I've heard of his work." She said in a flat tone, moving to rest her hand on the table, watching Myers. "Scared Jones off into retirement. Not that it was hard to do. HB already had him on edge." she snorted, glancing to the man and giving a nod.
"Yes, well... how is Hellboy, anyhow?" Myers asked, brow raised.
"Grumpy, as normal. I don't think he cares for our new asset getting all the attention." she said towards Loki.
Well, a point in her favor as she used the correct name. She was either smart and sharp, or had been warned somehow by enough people he'd noted it too. "With a name like that, I don't quite blame him for being grumpy. Descriptive as it might be, it's hardly friendly." Because of course he had a remark about it. But he inclined his head, uncrossed his arms and settled back in the chair slightly. Relaxing only a fraction, or at least putting on a show of doing so. "Ms. Sherman." Greeting her politely. "Or would you prefer Agent Sherman?"
Her brow raised at his comment about Hellboy's name, but she also couldn't deny it either? She gave the faintest of nod and brow raise to it, then a glance to Myers. Really? You should have waited for Red to get back and pair him with this guy.
But she simply glanced back and said "Agent is fine." She didn't like being an agent though, so after a moment, a dead. "Or just Liz." Her voice was flat again, giving him a shrug. "Why are we here, John?"
John glanced between the two, smiling. "A case. One w ell suited to Loki here. Or so they hope."
"One that hopefully will interest me. No one wants me bored." With a wicked grin. "So far what they've given me have been tame and dull. I'm very unimpressed."
She rolled her eyes at that, but too looked at Myers as if expecting something... interesting. "I doubt anything is going to impress you."
Myers sighed, and moved to push two folders forward, one to her, then one to Loki. "We're sending you and a small crew to a very remote place in old Russia. Haunted ruins, it seems. Or perhaps a haunted house? As you can see in the folder, there is no home there. Just rubble of a burned building? But this teen boy came stumbling out of it, saying it's a full house, babbling about the past. He's claiming illusion. So, who better to find an illusion then you?"
Loki took the file, opening it and studying the information swiftly. "Illusion alone wouldn't account for the boy's outdated clothing or belief he's from it. Unless whoever set it was very talented. I presume the boy has been questioned for facts that can be confirmed to only be relevant from the time he claims to be from?" Flipping through the file, looking to see if there was a page about that.
An illusory house was not interesting. But an illusory house that might be a rip in space and portal? That was interesting.
