"What exactly does an Agent do for our benefactors?" Curious question because he had never met someone who was simply an 'Agent' before. An Agent for what purpose? Secret agent? Spy? Agent of dangerous travels? Agent of books?
It was an amusing train of thought until he blinked at the way the Agent said his name. It took him a moment to make the connection and that too had him wondering who this Agent was and where he'd come from.
"Hokori is my mothers family name. Anderson is my fathers. There is a book where characters names reference their fathers, so I suppose it could be interpreted as Son of Ander."
He was holding that book now and had no intention of giving it up. This one he owned.
"If you knew, you'd have to die." Loki said seriously, holding the other's gaze and expression entirely serious. Now he was curious about how the other would react.
Sebastian's gaze narrowed slightly, more from the way he was being stared at so seriously. One thing he'd learned over the years was not to look away when someone was looking for a reaction. Normally it was bullies searching for fear.
Without looking away he closed his book. Truth or not he wouldn't back down or show a weakness.
"We all die sometime. Would it be worth it to know the secret? If the secret it's not worth death then I don't think I want to know."
That actually brought a smile, with a slightly sharp edge. "Clever answer." Said with approval. Then Loki turned back towards the bookshelf.
"Agents are solo operatives, but otherwise much like the explorer's crew. But we're specialized troubleshooters, hence why we work solo. That's what I've gathered based on my experience." A pause, and he pulled another book out and added it to his pile. "I am Loki of Asgard."
"Do you read mysteries to pass the time or do you enjoy solving the mystery before the book reveals the answer?"
Clever had never been a word used to describe him before so he's a little pleased with himself as he skims over some of the titles in Loki of Asgard's collection.
"Loki." The name seemed a little familiar. "There is a story about a mask created by a God named Loki. God of Chaos and Mischief. A Norse God, I believe. Anyone wearing the mask would be...possessed by the spirit of the God? Or it's magic. I can't remember the details. It's not a name you hear often."
"That myth is likely unique to your world, as I've never created any masks." Loki replied, choosing to leave the other question unanswered. "Otherwise your world has it accurate."
This was by far the most interesting conversation he'd had since arriving in his new life--mostly because he preferred not to engage in developing relationships beyond the necessary--and he was finding it difficult to walk away.
"You know the myths about Loki. Were you named after him?"
It didn't occur to him that Loki was suggesting he was the God of Chaos and Mischief. Only that he was saying the myths were true, except for the one about the mask, and teasing that he himself had never created such a mask. Gods weren't real so he couldn't imagine actually meeting one in person.
"Oh the myths still have many things lost in translation and altered or elaborated on." Loki replied, before turning an amused look on Sebastian. "But they were named after me." A pause, and a sly smile. "I'm the God of Mischief."
