Celestia wasn't the only one who paced at night on occasion; her shinki just did so outside more often than not. Looking up at the stars, or walking around her temple grounds--so different than his former Goddess's. But Mai had vanished, leaving Caireen to reincarnate again somehow--and leaving Trunks without one of his closest friends as well as his Goddess and partner.
Not that he wasn't grateful for his other friends, especially Celestia. Not only renaming him as her vessel, but also helping be there for him through the initial loss. But nightmares were often still a thing. Added to a few memories he'd recovered and Trunks had realized they'd been common in his life too.
He was on his way outside--to go pace, stare at the stars maybe--due to a bout of his own insomnia, when he heard the noise from the kitchen. Detouring instead, to come and make sure Celestia was alright. Making enough noise hopefully, that even before the cough to let her know he was there, she wouldn't be startled.
TFS--angst incoming :D They can be there for each other
